Snow Report The average annual snowfall in these parts—an area that spans 60 miles, from Revelstoke in the south to the Monashee Lodge up north—is 80 feet. The northern Monashees offer consistently steep valleys with well-spaced old-growth forests, and in the Selkirks you’ll have your choice of 250 to 500 runs each day. And by “run,” we mean a point at the top of a peak at which you can ski down six to 15 different ways. It’s the perfect storm of perfect terrain: steeps, bowls, glades, trees, cliffs. And it’s demanding terrain, so come fit to best enjoy it. Go for It If you can still walk at the end of the day, challenge your buddies to a climbing comp on the four-story indoor climbing wall at the Monashee Lodge, your home for the first four nights. The loser goes to bed without a massage. Lodging CMH’s Monashee Lodge, a startling $15 million glass-and-pine structure in the middle of nowhere, is your first stop. With soaring ceilings, a giant fireplace, and a world-renowned chef who whips up a mean lobster thermidor, you won’t exactly be roughing it. The next three nights, soak in the good life at Halcyon Hot Springs, with a 104-degree-Fahrenheit outdoor mineral pool that overlooks the Upper Arrow Lakes (halcyon-hotsprings.com). Once you’re parboiled, opt for a sports massage to get you ready for another day of long descents. Après You have two enviable choices: A superb gourmet spread of world-class wines paired with the finest Pacific catch at Monashee, or a superb gourmet spread of world-class wines paired with the finest Pacific catch at Halcyon’s Kingfisher restaurant.
