The Sun Mountain Sports Superlight 3.5 golf bag - Photo by Shana Novak
I would never claim a macho streak, but for years now I have successfully avoided riding in golf carts…except maybe the occasional lift from the 19th hole to my car. Yes, to the groans of my regular foursome and chagrin of those who often must play through, I walk the course. I’m not crowing about it; I need the damn exercise. As I’ve put on the years, though, I must admit that I’ve taken to ridding my bag of every extraneous ounce, like the captain of a leaky ship trying to keep his rig afloat. Four-iron? Never used it. Nine? My pitching wedge would do. Now, since Sun Mountain Sports has come out with its Superlight 3.5, I am back to a full quiver of clubs. It’s not just that at 56 ounces it’s the lightest bag on the market; it’s also the way those 56 ounces and the weight of your gear are distributed. Sun Mountain accomplishes this with its trademarked E-Z Fit dual-strap system. Using the Superlight is as easy as slipping in and out of a daypack. I was also impressed that such a light bag holding all my clubs could be supported by the stand attachment. No matter how hard I slap the bag down to release the stand, it takes the pressure admirably. Also included: seven pockets and a rain hood. $180; sunmountain.com Comments (0)
