A Star Is Reborn

2009 marks the 50th anniversary—and return to Glory—of one of Triumph’s most famous  bikes, the Bonneville

triumph.jpgIf any motorcycle brand could be considered a movie star, it would have to be Triumph. From Brando’s ride of terror in 1953’s The Wild One to Steve McQueen’s nearly great escape to Warren Beatty’s portrayal of a Tiger-riding hairdresser in Shampoo, Triumph has come to exemplify the big-screen iconoclast.

At first glance, the new 865cc Bonneville SE (the original Bonneville was introduced in 1959) is pure seventies, from its tapered, retro gas tank to its chromed megaphone exhaust pipes. But the British makers were sure to add enough modern tech and design details to impress, including electronic fuel injection, lightweight 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels, powerful disc brakes, and a newly designed front rotor. Go ahead—take a ride and be a star. $8,399; triumph.co.uk
